The cast of J.J. Abrams' reboot is ready to beam aboard Tarantino's Star Trek movie
Ever since we received confirmation that Paramount is busy working on two separate Star Trek films, the fairly obvious assumption is that one of them is the much-ballyhooed, R-rated, Quentin Tarantino-directed installment of the franchise. And now we know that it won’t just be a one-off with some nobodies on the U.S.S. Whatever.
Zachary Quinto, a.k.a. Spock, recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and in response to a question about whether he and his fellow castmates from the rebooted film series would be appearing in the Tarantino film, Quinto confirmed that certainly seems to be the plan (knock on wood):
My assumption is that it’s with us. I mean, that’s how it’s been presented. I don’t know. Look, until deals are done and contracts are signed and schedules are cleared, nothing is set in stone, so anything can happen. My understanding is that Quentin had this idea and they were shaping it and forming it and he’s off to do his Manson movie. And it would be after that that [the 2009 cast] would maybe go and do one with him, which is pretty exciting, pretty cool.
The big question that now remains is whether this film would be in subsequent timeline continuity with the upcoming Star Trek 4 film being directed by S.J. Clarkson—which would essentially make Tarantino’s film Star Trek 5, given that the script for Clarkson’s movie is reportedly further along—or if it will be some mission the crew went on during the time in between other films. Or, possibly, it will take place in a parallel universe where the events from the first and third of the new series of films still transpired, but what happened in Star Trek Into Darkness was replaced with something, well, better.
