The cast of Suicide Squad has an on-set “therapist”
Shit is going to get real in Suicide Squad. So real, in fact, that David Ayer has reportedly hired an on-set “therapist” for the actors. Well, he’s “kind of” “like a therapist.” More of a life coach, really.
Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in the film, says that Ayer wants his actors to really get into the head spaces of their fucked-up characters but doesn’t want them pushing themselves so far that they turn into real-life villains. “So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing,” Beach said, adding,“We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous.” The guy hired to keep the actors sane is apparently a friend of Ayer’s who’s more of a “life coach” than a psychotherapist. “Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don’t disappear somewhere and then don’t show up for work,” Beach said.
So the Suicide Squad set doesn’t necessarily sound like a party, especially with Jared Leto running around sending people live rats and a dead hog. We’ll have to wait until August 5, 2016 to see how the tumultuous set conditions translate to the big screen.
