The casts of Ghostbusters unite on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, world doesn’t end

Amid concerns about the crossing of streams and crassness of marketing stunts, the casts of the old and new Ghostbusters movies got together on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for Ghostbusters Day. The potential for the ruining of childhoods was certainly there, what with the boy Ghostbusters not only tolerating sharing a room with the girl Ghostbusters, but having a great time doing it. But maybe that’s just the kind of magic Ray Parker Jr.’s original Ghostbusters theme can work. (Beware the Fall Out Boy.)

The female Ghostbusters—Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon—took the stage first to dismiss their detractors, whom McCarthy imagined were already typing out angry responses over the sacrilege these women have committed by daring to star in a movie about a thing they really like. Those exorcism enthusiasts haven’t been swayed by the ringing endorsements from original Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson, who all appear in Paul Feig’s new film, but there’s still time for them to come around. After all, Annie Potts was also there to give her seal of approval.
