The Catch showrunner exits due to “creative differences”
ABC’s The Catch—from Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland—has already done some recasting, and now the thriller is undergoing a creative change of hands as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Schur, who developed the show alongside Rhimes and Betsy Beers, has departed the Shondaland family because of “creative differences,” Hollywood’s favorite vague reason for exiting a project. Waiting in the wings was Shondaland veteran Allan Heinberg, who is now in talks to take over The Catch. Heinberg’s Shondaland producing and writing credits include Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy.
The Catch follows a seasoned con man named Kiernan, who was originally supposed to be played by Damon Dayoub and was replaced by Parenthood’s Peter Krause. The role of Kiernan’s wife Zoe was originally filled by Bethany Joy Lenz from One Tree Hill, but has since been recast, with Sonya Walger stepping in. Walger had a short arc on Scandal, as well as with Krause on Parenthood, but she’s best known for playing someone whose boat you shouldn’t get into. According to THR, sources say the entire direction of the pilot and series could be changed after the casting and creative shakeup. Mireille Enos stars as Alice Vaughn (for now, but who’s to say? No one is safe), the fraud investigator who seems to be the only person capable of catching Kiernan. Shondaland will probably find a way to make fraud investigation sexy.
