The computers are trying to kill us in today's trailer happy hour

Welcome back to Trailer Happy Hour, where we take a dash of movie teasers, a healthy helping of full-blown trailers, and just a soupçon of TV promotion, and boil it all down to a hearty gumbo of easily clickable content. Today we’ve got computers trying to kill people all over the place, so let’s dive right in.

First up: Sequence Break, a new Shudder exclusive that looks to be mashing together Videodrome with the old “killer arcade game” rumors, to make something that hopefully won’t end in anybody turning into James Woods. Our own Alex McLevy described it as the “Cronenberg-iest David Cronenberg homage that ever crawled through a screen” when he saw it at last year’s Cinepocalypse, so consider that a muted vote of approval when the movie makes its way to Shudder on May 24.

Next up, we’ve got the more mundane computer thriller Searching, which sees sad-faced John Cho riff on Unfriended as he tries to figure out all the things his missing daughter was hiding from him. (Hopefully it won’t involve anybody sticking a hand in a blender this time, at least.) Searching uploads itself to theaters this August.

Meanwhile, over on the TV front, we’ve got the YouTube Originals series Impulse, which reinforces that old high school moral: Never bully the weird outsider girl, because she’s probably got psychic powers. Starring Maddie Hasson, the trailer gets the not-all-that-prestigious Trailer Happy Hour award for using a slow, creepy version of a pop song, courtesy of a cover of Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass.” The series debuts its entire first season on June 6.

Finally, we’ve got a Trailer Happy Hour returning contestant: The full trailer for Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon’s The Spy Who Dumped Me, which saves its best new joke for the end, when Gillian Anderson steps in as an actual badass spy (in contrast to Kunis and McKinnon, who are just kind of winging it). The action-comedy hits theaters on August 3.
