The con is on as Ocean’s Eight gets a release date

With its crew of beautiful miscreants now in place—and a place for its heistOcean’s Eight is set to get one over on audiences in about two years (it’s a long con, we guess). According to Variety, the all-female Ocean’s Eleven spin-off has nabbed a June 8, 2018 release date. Sandra Bullock was the first actor to join the project. She’ll play the ex-con sister of ex-con Danny Ocean, who leads her own team of takers that includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina (real name Nora Lum). Ocean’s Eleven trilogy helmer Steven Soderbergh is set to executive produce with director Gary Ross, who co-wrote the script.

With this announcement, the cinematic caper will be locked in a battle of tangential properties, as the Transformers all-Bumblebee spin-off is also slated for a June 8, 2018 premiere. 2018 looks to be packed with spin-offs: It will also see the release of the Han Solo standalone film—which is about to land its female lead—as well as another Fantastic Beasts movie. (The latter two are more likely to open in the winter, in keeping with their respective franchises.) And, if Simon Kinberg plays his cards right, there might even be a Gambit movie.
