The Cool Kids are getting back together to keep the world from trippin’

For many people, these past couple of weeks have been a continuous slog of awful news punctuated by short periods of Facebook squabbling with relatives who are apparently closet racists. So, for any rap aficionados in need of some good news, please be aware that the Chicago-based alternative hip-hop duo The Cool Kids are reuniting after five years apart. Despite Sir Michael Rock’s insistence in April 2015 that “The Cool Kids are never coming back,” it looks like he and co-founder Chuck Inglish have been inspired by the ugliness of recent news. Inglish announced the news on Twitter yesterday:

Rocks echoed the sentiment.

The two Midwest musicians originally started working together while they were both still in school back in 2005, after Rocks contacted Inglish about using a beat he’d uploaded to MySpace. They went on to produce six well-respected mix tapes, 2008’s critically acclaimed EP The Bake Sale, and 2011’s well-received full-length debut When Fish Ride Bicycles.
