The Courtneys announce sophomore album, share the shimmering “Silver Velvet”

The Courtneys aren’t a band bound by geography. Though they call Vancouver home, they’ve had music released on labels across the globe. For their sophomore album, aptly titled The Courtneys II, New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records will release the album on February 17. Today, The A.V. Club is streaming “Silver Velvet,” a song from The Courtneys II that highlights the band’s vast appeal (watch a trailer for the album here). ”Silver Velvet” opens with The Courtneys using a bit of misdirection, establishing a thick wall of feedback that the band kicks through with their simple, catchy power-pop. From top to bottom, the song feels like one big chorus, with every vocal melody bleeding infectiously into the next.

Pre-orders are available through Flying Nun Records.
