The creator of Jessica Jones is leaving Netflix

After season one of Jessica Jones, were viewers of the superhero series told the creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Marvel hit would be leaving, the response would likely have been, “Nooooo!” Now, after season two of the show, the news might be greeted with, “maybe it’s time for a change.”

So perhaps it’s not such a bad thing that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is leaving the series following wrapping production on season three, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Netflix supposedly wanted Rosenberg to stay, but the streaming service was outbid by Warner Bros. Television, who signed the writer and producer to an overall deal somewhere in the eight-figure range. Under the agreement, Rosenberg will create and develop new projects for Warner Bros. TV, described in the piece as an “indie studio”—which is kind of an odd title for a company that has “Warner Bros.” in the title, but it’s a brave new world of media out there.

“All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three,” Rosenberg said in a statement. “It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix.” There is no word yet on when season three of Jessica Jones will air, but hopefully it remembers both that Jessica is a detective and also a superhero who can punch people really hard, not just someone with a crappy family.
