The Crow reboot has a new director, may have lost its Nick Cave script

According to a press release from Relativity Media, Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intacto, 28 Weeks Later) is now in charge of its long-planned reboot of The Crow, the cult 1994 film that gave an entire generation of goth kids wardrobe ideas. As demonstrated in his two most famous projects, Fresnadillo has a way with dark and moody atmospherics, so he’s an inspired choice, even if the project itself is not. But the most confusing thing about the announcement is that Fresnadillo is reportedly also attached to “develop the script once a writer is attached to adapt the screenplay”—suggesting that the version undertaken by Nick Cave, which briefly stoked our interest when it was announced, is no longer being used. We reached out to Relativity for clarification earlier today but haven’t heard anything yet. In the meantime, let’s all just listen to “From Her To Eternity.”
