The Cult's Ian Astbury records EP with Boris
Ian Astbury, primal-screamer for The Cult and former Jim Morrison ringer in The Doors Of The 21st Century, has found a new side project since appearing on Slash's self-titled solo album from earlier this year, recording an EP with Japanese overload-metal band Boris. Three of the four songs on the disc, titled BXI, feature Astbury's vocals; the last song is an Astbury-free cover of The Cult's 1985 classic, "Rain." According to a Pitchfork interview with Boris, the band performed a number of songs with Astbury during a show in Sydney, Australia, on May 29—including a cover of The Doors' "The End." BXI comes out on Southern Lord in September.
