The CW is developing a “biopunk version” of a 1930s pulp series called The Avenger, according to Deadline. While the original Street & Smith magazine—which ran from 1939 to 1942, inspiring a radio serial and later a Jack Kirby-drawn DC Comics adaptation—centered on a man avenging the death of his wife and daughter, the updated, gender-flipped version will follow “Alice Benson, a young woman who, in the wake of her parents’ murder, discovers she possesses a superpower as a result of genetic bio-hacking which allows her to transform her appearance at will." Alice will use those bio-hacked talents to change her face to find her parents' killer and solve the mystery of her powers in the series from Warehouse 13 writers Deric Hughes and Benjamin Raab, which remains untitled. Obviously, The Avenger is out due to Marvel, while Avenge is too much like Revenge. Maybe something more original, like Alias Biopunk.
