The CW is making a show about a guy whose best friend is dating his mom
If there’s one thing missing from the CW’s youthful lineup, it’s puns. That market gap will be filled this summer with the airing of Significant Mother, a half-hour comedy series about—for all intents and purposes—some guy’s sexy mom. The story breathes heavily behind a Portland business type, Nate (Josh Zuckerman), who discovers that his best friend, Jimmy (Rob Mayes), is dating his recently divorced mother Lydia (Krista Allen). Beyond shocking audiences with the news that Krista Allen is now old enough to play Josh Zuckerman’s mom—a 14-year age gap works, apparently—wacky, uncomfortable high jinks are sure to ensue.
Additional cast includes Jonathan Silverman of Weekend At Bernie’s fame; here he’ll be playing Lydia’s scorned ex-husband, propping up the dead corpse of his marriage by attempting to woo his wife back to his age-appropriate embrace. Jay Ali and Emma Fitzpatrick also star, presumably as nameless background figures who high-five each other after every joke.
