The CW renews Riverdale for a second season
TVLine reports that The CW’s latest teen-focused soap—the “sexy Archie” series Riverdale—has been renewed for another year. The show’s second season will presumably bring fans all of the Betty, Veronica, and Jughead intrigue they’ve come to love, and way less “Archie banging Ms. Grundy” material, please.
Produced by Greg Berlanti—a.k.a., The CW’s personal comic book content factory—Riverdale is showrun by Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The KJ Apa starring-series has drawn strong reviews for its initial run, which managed to blend some real emotional drama with sentences like “Jughead and Betty team up to solve a murder.” Per Wikipedia, the show is bringing in about 2 million viewers a week, not Arrow or The Flash numbers, but apparently enough to keep it in the network’s good graces for at least another year.
