Even though the world was treated to a grainy image of what the members of Daft Punk look like without their signature helmets a couple years ago, the hunt to violate their robotic privacy continues. Luckily, the duo was willing to play ball recently, albeit with a catch: They posed helmetless for a 3D scan so sculptor Xavier Veilhan could include them in a series of sculptures called The Producers. Veilhan’s project also features plywood versions of other music greats, including Quincy Jones, Giorgio Moroder, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Rick Rubin, The Neptunes (Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams), Nigel Godrich, and Philippe Zdar.
Regarding the divine privilege of gazing upon Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s natural forms, Veilhan said, “The funny thing is I didn’t even ask them…They proposed to me: ‘Okay, we should make the sculpture the non-existing image of us. So if somebody wants to see how we are like in real [life] they’ll have to look at the sculpture.’” Unfortunately, the two elected to wear sunglasses, so the exact shape of their eyeballs and eyelashes remains a mystery.
The Producers will debut as part of Veilhan’s Music exhibition at New York’s Galerie Perrotin from February 26 to April 11. For a sneak peak of the Daft Punk dudes’ contribution, check them out in all their flammable glory below.
