The director of Rio and Ice Age is making a live-action monster movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has bought a “red-hot pitch” from Jason Micallef (the writer behind Butter and the upcoming Play-Doh movie). Rio and Ice Age director Carlos Saldanha has already signed on as well, and the project—which is titled Shadows—will be his live-action directorial debut. We don’t know much about what Shadows will actually be, but apparently Micallef wrote a 50-page proposal that lays out a “three-film franchise,” and it all revolves around “the world of cryptozoology.” Based on what we do know, though, we’d wager that it’ll be a Monsters Inc.-style kid-friendly take on Bigfoots and Loch Ness Monsters or whatever. Maybe there’ll be a human kid who is afraid of the mysterious things that live in shadows, so he investigates them, finds a wonderful world of friendly monsters, and then he has to convince people the monsters are nice. Boom, $500 million.
