The election continues to tear our celebrities apart
We recently reported that the Baldwin boys were having a bit of a feud over the presidential election, with Stephen and Billy arguing on Twitter about the media’s supposed liberal bias and Alec poking fun at Stephen on SNL, but they’re not the only famous (or at least famous-adjacent) people who are having trouble getting along these days. According to Variety, Robert De Niro and Arnold Schwarzenegger—who we will just assume are best buddies—had an awkward encounter at the annual Friends Of The Israel Defense Forces Western Regional Gala in Los Angeles when De Niro refused to pose for a photo with Schwarzenegger.
“If you’re supporting Trump, I want nothing to do with you,” De Niro reportedly told Schwarzenegger, who then tried explain his thoughts on the election. De Niro then directly asked him if he’s voting for Trump, and the ostensibly imposing action hero than started “backing off toward the other side of the room.”
It’s worth pointing out that Schwarzenegger tweeted his thoughts on Trump in early October, revealing that it will be his first election since becoming an American citizen in the ‘80s that he will not vote for the Republican presidential candidate:
So, it seems possible to interpret the interaction at the FOTIDFWRG in a couple of ways. Perhaps Schwarzenegger’s anti-Trump convictions aren’t as strong as he claimed they were in October, and he is still planning to vote for Trump on Tuesday? Or, perhaps Arnold Schwarzenegger is afraid of Robert De Niro and was intimidated by his political bullying? Whatever happened, we just hope our celebrity best buddies can patch things up after Tuesday.
