The Emmys celebrate solving every problem in a joyous, premature musical number

After a couple years of hard work and conscientiousness, the entertainment industry has done it: Everything is fixed. As noted in the musical opening at the Emmy Awards tonight, the bad guys are all in jail, the Emmy nominees are just a hair more diverse than they normally are, and both a white guy and a black guy are hosting the ceremony. The fun, relatively low-key number featured a star-studded cast, including Kenan Thompson, RuPaul, Kristen Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Kate McKinnon, Tituss Burgess, Ricky Martin, and John Legend, and it all captured the breezy, celebratory atmosphere of life in 2018. Andy Samberg even rode a moon down from the ceiling to ask if there was still room for straight, white guys, and it was very cool/scary.

Unfortunately, as Kenan Thompson later learned, nothing is actually fixed and the whole song was a delusional misstep that merely highlighted how much work we all still have to do. But hey, at least Sean Spicer wasn’t there. That’s a step up from last year!
