The Expendables to become TV series with old TV actors

The Expendables—the film franchise in which faded, elderly action movie stars are drafted for action movies that wink at their being faded and elderly—is set to become a TV show, starring actors who are equally old, yet not famous enough to be invited to the big screen. Deadline reports that producers Sylvester Stallone and Avi Lerner are readying to begin doling out backhanded compliments to a swath of “iconic TV stars,” as they recruit them to play an all-new team of crack, slightly more affordable commandoes in their event series for Fox.

There’s currently no cast attached, though the report does suggest that there are “plenty of beloved action TV stars to choose from”—naming the likes of Chuck Norris (who’s already in the Expendables movies) and other gainfully employed people who probably don’t need this, like Kiefer Sutherland, Lucy Lawless, Jennifer Garner, Tom Selleck, and Scott Bakula—all before finally getting real and mentioning Mr. T. It’s all speculation at this point, though the announcement is already causing excitement in the general vicinity of Lorenzo Lamas.
