The FBI is investigating the allegations against Ryan Adams

Fresh off a New York Times report yesterday outlining allegations of emotional abuse and sexually inappropriate behavior from seven different women against him, the FBI has confirmed that it’s opened an investigation into the actions of musician Ryan Adams. Specifically, Pitchfork reports that the Bureau’s Crimes Against Children Squad has visited the Times’ offices to ask questions about one of the women, identified in the piece only as Ava, who says Adams sent her sexual messages when she was underage.

According to the report, Adams began contacting Ava, an up-and-coming bassist, when she was just 13, and often alternated sexually explicit messages with promises of musical success and demands that she tell him she was 18. He also allegedly exposed himself to her over Skype.

Adams issued statements yesterday—both through social media, and his lawyers—disputing all of the allegations made against him in the Times piece. The FBI inquiry into his behavior is reportedly in “its earliest stages.”
