The first full trailer for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac has his most artful dick shots yet

After months of increasingly NSFW appetizers, the first full trailer for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac has arrived, offering a veritable Thanksgiving feast of sexual depravity. While you should be familiar by now with the basic plot—Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stacy Martin switch off between older and younger versions of sex addict Joe, as she narrates her strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk to an alleyway just outside Stellan Skarsgard’s house—this preview reveals more of the movie’s many stylistic quirks, as von Trier spends its five-and-a-half-hour running time (which will be greatly reduced in wider release) cycling through a variety of aspect ratios, color palettes, and split-screen techniques, while Gainsbourg and Martin cycle through a variety of beautifully photographed dicks. Incidentally, this trailer’s debut coincided with an announcement from Cannes that—while everyone’s gotten over von Trier’s little Nazi routine—Nymphomaniac won’t be qualified to screen in competition. Which is too bad: It would be a lock for “Best Spitting Of Ejaculate.”
