The first, NSFW Green Inferno red-band clip could be grosser, honestly

One of the best horror taglines of all time comes from the 1982 Spanish slasher flick Pieces, whose poster boldly proclaims: “Pieces … It’s exactly what you think it is!” That same statement could be applied to the first red-band clip from Eli Roth’s long-delayed cannibal movie The Green Inferno. In a scene that would fit seamlessly into any of the ’80s Italian cannibal movies that inspired the film, the clip shows tribespeople covered in red paint feeding one of our ugly Americans some sort of (hopefully) anesthetic mixture and laying him out on a rock, at which point a shaman-type figure cuts out one of his eyeballs for an afternoon snack. In other words, it’s exactly what you think it is.

Honestly, though, we were expecting a bit more from the guy who brought us Hostel and Hostel 2. Just an eyeball, Eli? You know you can pull out someone’s brains through their nasal cavity, right? Maybe some tonsils or something? You can find out if Roth is losing his touch when The Green Inferno hits theaters on September 25.
