The first official Marvin Gaye documentary is in the works

Every since that big lawsuit against “Blurred Lines,” people have wanted to know more about this Marvin Gaye dude whose family won all that money from Robin Thicke and Pharrell. Now, according to Variety, they’ll finally get that chance thanks to a new documentary about the legendary musician called Marvin, What’s Going On? that will revolve around his life and the creation of his iconic What’s Going On album. Also, the film will be the very first one officially authorized by his family, with a statement referring to it as “the defining portrait of this visionary artist and his impeccable album.”

Marvin, What’s Going On? will be directed by Gabriel Clarke and Torquil Jones, and it will “feature exclusive interviews with some of Motown’s top stars and never-before-seen archive footage unearthed by Gaye’s children and former wife.” (Such is the benefit of getting an artist’s family on board with a documentary project.) The film will be released at some point next year.
