The first teaser for Disney’s Zootopia over-explains the film’s concept
“Like nothing you’ve seen be-fur,” boasts the new teaser trailer for Walt Disney Animation’s Zootopia, conveniently ignoring the fact that it kind of looks like Fantastic Mr. Fox, Chicken Little, and Disney’s Robin Hood. Nevertheless, this teaser goes out of its way to make sure viewers understand Zootopia’s familiar conceit: The movie takes place in a world without humans where animals have created their own society, complete with clothing and technology.
The teaser also lets Jason Bateman show off the signature deadpan delivery he’ll bring to scam-artist fox Nick Wilde. And it hints that the film’s central conflict will be between Wilde and optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin), the first bunny to join a police force full of much bigger animals. Mostly, however, the teaser makes triple sure people understand a concept that has been a cornerstone of animation for decades. Those who are still confused might want to check out Kung Fu Panda, Cats Don’t Dance, A Bug’s Life, The Busy World Of Richard Scarry, Arthur, or The Berenstain Bears before the film hits theaters on March 4, 2016.
