The first trailer for Nick's latest TMNT series is full of fresh new redesigns for fans to get angry about

We’ve known for a while now that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were due for another reboot, with Nickelodeon announcing last year that Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the fourth animated series featuring the characters, was on its way. Now, we’ve got the first trailer for the new series, featuring the latest redesigns for the iconic adolescent chelonians (plus a whole lot of yelling Ben Schwartz).

The former Jean-Ralphio plays Leonardo here, cracking wise along with the rest of his bros. Meanwhile, watching the trailer, we have to say that the overall look of the show feels kind of overwhelming and busy, at least at first glance. It’s interesting, though, to note how producer Andy Suriano (Samurai Jack) and his team have been careful to grant each Turtle their own silhouette and physique, rather than just relying on mask color and weapon choices to distinguish them in a fight.

Anyway, we assume that a brigade of old-school “fans” of the franchise, angry about this latest deviation from their childhood memories, will be along any second now to complain about Rise’s changes to the character’s designs. Or hey, maybe we’re wrong, and the numerous and radical redesigns these characters have gotten over the years—including the dreaded Michael Bay CGI lumps—have immunized the franchise from this kind of critique.

Ahhh…It’s good to laugh, you know?
