The Flash races to Sunday for the "Elseworlds" crossover kickoff

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, December 9. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

The Flash (The CW, 8 p.m., special night, midseason finale): At long last, we’re headed to “Elseworlds.” It feels like an eternity since The CW started promoting this year’s three-part crossover, in which the worlds of Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow will collide, thanks to the machinations of the nefarious, reality-altering John Deegan (Jeremy Davies). Combining the three shows makes for an already crowded roster, but Greg Berlanti and company will also introduce Batwoman (Ruby Rose) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), who presumably appears alongside the returning Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). In short, there’s a lot going on.

“Elseworlds” kicks off tonight with The Flash, which swaps places with Supergirl this week. In it, Barry Allen and Oliver Queen wake up to find they’ve swapped lives, somehow: Oliver (Stephen Amell) wakes up in a gorgeous Central City loft, only to have Iris (Candice Patton) call him Barry and lay a big ol’ kiss on him, while Barry (Grant Gustin) is now the Green Arrow. Bonkers! Scott Von Doviak will help make sense of the proceedings.

Regular coverage

Doctor Who (BBC America, 8 p.m.): 11th season finale
The Simpsons (Fox, 8 p.m.): fall finale
Outlander (Starz, 8 p.m.)
Bob’s Burgers (Fox, 8:30 p.m.): fall finale
Charmed (The CW, 9 p.m.): fall finale
My Brilliant Friend (HBO, 9 p.m.)
Escape At Dannemora (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime): episodes 9 and 10

Wild card

Dancing With The Stars: Juniors (ABC, 8 p.m.): Imagine MasterChef Junior, but with lots of sequins and pop hits. Got that in your mind’s eye? If so, congrats, you’ve got a complete handle on the general vibe of the pint-sized version of Dancing With The Stars. Tonight’s first season finale is also a holiday special, and we’d bet money there will be quite a lot of holly-jolly stuff. If that’s not your bag, consider yourself warned—but come on, this is pharmaceutical-grade cute:
