The Force Awakens is finished, J.J. Abrams is “terrified” to release it
Here’s a statement that people who hate fun and/or experimental article layouts have been waiting to hear for a long time: The Force Awakens comes out in a less than a month, and the movie is finally finished. That means we’ve almost reached the point where the Star Wars-averse never have to hear about it again. (Aside from all of the post-movie articles people will write about it, its two sequels, and all of those standalone spin-offs.)
Director J.J. Abrams made this announcement during a Q&A with Stephen Colbert at the Montclair Film Festival in New Jersey. Specifically, he explained that he had been awake until 2:30 that morning “working on the final mixes,” and he only stopped at that point because he realized, “I have to get to the Montclair Film Festival.” He said there were “six very small, but important things” that he still had to do at that point, but now the movie is effectively done.
One audience member asked Abrams if he wanted Star Wars to “just be over,” which Abrams responded to by comparing his work on the movie to “living with the greatest roommate in history for too long.” He says he’s ready for this personified version of The Force Awakens to “get his own place” and “meet other people,” even though “it’s been great.” He also added that he’s “thrilled beyond words and terrified more than [he] can say” to finally release the film, but he really shouldn’t have anything to worry about. It’s not like Star Wars fans are known for being profoundly overdramatic when it comes to dealing with disappointment.
At the Q&A, Stephen Colbert also told a story about how Jennifer Garner used to babysit for his daughter, but that has nothing to do with Star Wars.
