The Golden Globes are totally in love with Ryan Gosling and Zooey Deschanel

We’ve heard from various critical cabals and lollipop guilds, but now it’s time to get serious: The Golden Globe nominations are in, giving us a first glance at which stars will find their multimillion-dollar existences rendered absolutely meaningless after host Ricky Gervais suggests they are silly, and which studios will be accused of payola for getting their unworthy films on the list for recognition. Though, actually, the nominees are fairly unsurprising and controversy-free this year—there’s no star-baiting equivalent of The Tourist, for example, except that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association obviously wanted to make doubly sure that George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, and Zooey Deschanel showed up.

And of course, that’s only if you don’t count the snub of Breaking Bad for Best Drama Series (Kelsey Grammer’s Boss seems to have taken either its or Homeland's place—LIKE A BAUOSE) and whatever’s going on in Best Comedy Series, where newcomers Enlightened, Episodes, and New Girl have already accomplished in 12 episodes or less what Parks And Recreation and Community never could. A couple of surprises: The HFPA preferred Kristen Wiig over her Bridesmaids co-star Melissa McCarthy, The Guard’s Brendan Gleeson snuck into the Best Actor category, and Jonah Hill can now say he’s been in the same company as Kenneth Branagh, Albert Brooks, Christopher Plummer, and Viggo Mortensen. Anyway, here’s the list.
