The Grammys will pay tribute to Prince and George Michael

The 59th Grammy Awards will include tributes to Prince and George Michael, Variety reports. The awards body is honoring the late Prince almost a year after his death, and including an homage to the late George Michael, who died six months later, in December. The president and CEO of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, issued a statement recognizing the pop icons as possessing “rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma.” Although “each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide,” Portnow stated. Both artists received multiple Grammy nominations and awards. Their deaths have dealt a huge blow to fans, so the Academy will honor their legacies while celebrating all of the creatives they inspired. There are no details on just what the tributes will entail yet, or which performers will be involved. The Grammys will be held Sunday, February 12, and broadcast on CBS.
