The guys from Super Troopers are making a sitcom for TBS right meow

Usually, the Broken Lizard comedy troupe tends to stick to making films. They’re the guys behind Club Dread, Beerfest, and, of course, Super Troopers, a movie that became a cult hit through sheer force of being played on Comedy Central all the time and the reliability of college kids loving jokes about marijuana. Those films have all been reasonably successful—again, thanks to the reliability of college kids and their love for marijuana—but meow Variety is reporting that the team is going to try and make the jump to TV by creating a sitcom for TBS.

The show will be titled Quality Time, and it sounds like it will be about fictionalized versions of the actual Broken Lizard members “as they struggle through various challenges of adult misery and child rearing and attempt to hang on to the idiotic freedom of their irresponsible pre-parental lives.” The reference to “idiotic freedom” and use of the word “irresponsible” sounds a little judge-y to us, but those are Variety’s words. We’re fine with whatever life choices they make.

Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske will write for Quality Time, with the only absent Broken Lizard member being Jay Chandrasekhar. That most likely means he’ll be a director on the show, since he directed all of their movies—as well as a few fantastic episodes of Community and Arrested Development. The show is still pretty early in development, so we’ll presumably know more—and see some of the guys pop up in those “very funny” commercials—at some point in the future.
