The Hobo With A Shotgun guy made a new trailer for the hot new horror movie The Guest

Hitting theaters in select cities today, Adam Wingard’s The Guest is a fun throwback to moody horror/action/thrillers of the ’80s and ’90s. Our own A.A. Dowd gave the film a B+ and says it “gleefully recalls a very specific strain of Hollywood junk.” Wingard’s latest blends elements from The Terminator, The Stepfather, Deadly Friend, and other B-movie standards that lined the shelves of video store horror sections. In celebration of its stateside premiere, a new trailer has been made for it by a filmmaker who also revels in the cult thrills of yesteryear.

Jason Eisener, best known for his film Hobo With A Shotgun, has previously shown his passion for nostalgic mayhem with his short films for the anthologies The ABCs Of Death and V/H/S/2 (Wingard also made entries for both), and his work on the video game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It’s no wonder why a filmmaker like Eisener, who appreciates and celebrates genre fare from previous decades in his own work, would be a fan of The Guest. Both Eisener and Wingard (along with his writer for The Guest and You’re Next, Simon Barrett) make films that embody their ’80s VHS influences without simply being checklists of references or strenuously winking jokes to past material. Due to this kinship and mutual admiration society, Eisener has made his own trailer for The Guest that sells the menacing charm of Dan Stevens’ David as he ingratiates and utterly disrupts the lives of the quiet family he visits. The trailer is cut to the song “SaharA” by F.O.O.L. which, while not on the film’s soundtrack (which is excellent), also fits in with the John Carpenter-esque synth/electronic music used throughout Wingard’s film.
