The Hot Dog King declares that hot dogs are not sandwiches

Earlier this month, competitive eater Joey Chestnut won the Nathan’s Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest for the 10th time by downing 72 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and as the person who is the best at eating hot dogs, Chestnut should therefore be recognized as the one true Hot Dog King. That also makes Chestnut a valuable source of information on hot dog-related issues, like which topping is the best (water) and which dogs are best suited for sliding down a throat (slippery hot dogs). There is one hot dog-related issue, however, that has divided the entire sausage community: Is a hot dog a sandwich?

The answer is obviously “no,” because it’s a ridiculous question, but Major League Baseball decided to catch up with Chestnut at the recent All-Star Fan Fest to ask for The Hot Dog King’s perspective on the controversy. Unsurprisingly, he has the right answer.

Since Chestnut is The Hot Dog King, his views on this matter should be unquestionable, which means hot dogs are officially not sandwiches.
