The hunt is on for a new Zac Efron for High School Musical 4

After seeing how well the recent Star Wars revival was received, the Disney Channel has decided to resurrect a beloved franchise of its own, and it’ll even follow the same idea of a new generation taking over for an older one. This comes from E!, which reports that the Disney Channel is currently developing a sequel to its High School Musical series and is even looking for “a new class of East High Wildcats” to star in it. Plus, High School Musical 4 will even give viewers a chance to “get to know East High’s rivals, the West High Knights,” which is probably pretty exciting for Disney Channel fans who have always wanted to learn more about those musical-hating bastards from West High.

At this point, it’s unclear if any of the original High School Musical stars, including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, and—of course—Zac Efron, the Han Solo of the East High Wildcats, are on board. Casting is just getting started, though, so it sounds like there’s plenty of time for Disney Channel to start saving up however much money it needs to temporarily drag Efron away from his reasonably successful movie career. (Also, continuing the Star Wars connection, Efron’s character will almost certainly be killed in High School Musical 4.)
