The internet did an actual great job raising money for that woman who flipped Trump off
In what is an increasingly rare, completely non-sarcastic great job by the internet, some $80,000 has been raised for the woman who was fired for giving Trump’s motorcade the finger. Virginian Juli Briskman, a 50-year-old mother of two, created the remarkable photo op while out for a bike ride and saw Trump’s motorcade going past. She later told The Huffington Post:
[The president] was passing by and my blood just started to boil. I’m thinking, DACA recipients are getting kicked out. He pulled ads for open enrollment in Obamacare. Only one-third of Puerto Rico has power. I’m thinking, he’s at the damn golf course again. I flipped off the motorcade a number of times.
After making it her profile picture on Facebook and Twitter, she was fired by her employer, an act of hypocrisy in light of a coworker who, she said, posted “fucking Libtard asshole” on an account associated with the company and received no punishment. Since then, a GoFundMe set up in her name has raised, at press time, $79,074 of a $100,000 goal, a sum which she will now officially receive, according to Vice. And while there are, of course, many worthy causes for donation out there for people interested in opposing Trump or helping people systemically disadvantaged by our current administration, it’s good to see a groundswell of support for someone who protested that administration in a very clear, picturesque way.
So that solves it: If you see Trump in public, fire off that middle finger proudly and confidently. You may lose your job but the internet has officially committed to raising you six figures to make up for it, assuming the whole thing creates a dynamite photo. If not, you’re probably on your own, but that middle finger will still feel good.
