The Interview is Google Play’s bestseller
The Interview, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s first real crack at satire/spy spoofs, was rendered DOA at the box office thanks to a little international interference. After threats from the North Korean government and a huge hack, Sony opted not to release the movie in theaters, and relegated the film to digital-only release. Time has been kinder to the film, as Variety reports The Interview is Google Play’s “bestseller.” The 2014 film has reigned over all the other film’s in Google Play’s catalog, and is officially its “most-sold” or downloaded selection ever. It’s outsold Frozen, Deadpool, and even Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Of course, its limited availability is probably the very thing that led to The Interview’s digital domination—how else was anyone going to watch it?—but at least there was a silver lining.
