The Jesus And Mary Chain is working on its first album in 17 years

Jim Reid of The Jesus And Mary Chain recently sat down with Time Out New York to discuss the 30th anniversary of his band’s hugely influential debut album Psychocandy, and though most of the interview is spent discussing the band’s legacy and how it feels to be playing old songs again on tour, Reid revealed at the very end that he and his brother William are actually working on a new album. This will be The Jesus And Mary Chain’s first album in 17 years—its last being 1998’s Munki—but Reid says they “just started recording” and that the album is in its “early days.” Still, he believes it will be a “more mature sound” for the band, but we’ll have to “wait and see” if that really ends up being the case.

After breaking up in the late-’90s and then reuniting in 2007, The Jesus And Mary Chain has been sporadically touring throughout the world. With a new album actually in the works, that will almost certainly continue.
