Although it’s the middle chapter of the sequel trilogy, The Last Jedi avoids being a retread of The Empire Strikes Back, thanks to strong performances from Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley, confident directing from Rian Johnson, and a reclamation of the values that made the original trilogy great.
