The Leftovers finally departs

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Sunday, June 4. All times are Eastern.

Top picks

The Leftovers (HBO, 9 p.m.): After three seasons, HBO’s prestige Sunday-night series comes to a close, making way for another HBO prestige series on the Sunday-night schedule. Thanks for nothing, HBO press release: “Nothing is answered. Everything is answered. And then it ends.” Joshua Alston will make sense of it all one last time.

Fear The Walking Dead (AMC, 9 p.m.): AMC’s zombie spin-off kicks off with a two-hour premiere for its third season. In “Eye Of The Beholder” and “The New Frontier,” the FTWD families “will be brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. International lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but family as well.” Looks like this premiere could have some valuable information for us all. Danette Chavez has been frightened away by the undead, so brave Caitlin PenzeyMoog is stepping in.

I’m Dying Up Here (Showtime, 10 p.m.): Jim Carrey executive-produces this new Showtime series, based on William Knoedelseder’s best-selling book about Mitzi Shore’s L.A. stand-up club The Comedy Store, which hosted comedians like David Letterman, Sandra Bernhard, Robin Williams, and Carrey himself over the years. Jesse Hassenger thinks the two-drink minimum is bullshit and is ready to heckle.

Regular coverage

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
Twin Peaks (Showtime, 9 p.m.)
American Gods (Starz, 9 p.m.)
Silicon Valley (HBO, 10 p.m.)
Veep (HBO, 10:30 p.m.)

Wild card

Orange Is The New Black (Netflix): Season five of this riveting Netflix series kicks off on June 9, so this is the perfect time to reacquaint yourself with the fascinating women of Litchfield Penitentiary. Andrew McCarthy, who directed season five’s first episode, told us that the new season kicks off as intensely as the last one ended. Which was pretty frickin’ intense. Unfortunately, that’s all he would tell us.
