The Loneliest Planet

Thoughts on, and a place to discuss, the plot details we can’t reveal in our review.

Okay, so here’s the thing that happens in The Loneliest Planet: Three men approach our backpackers and start speaking to the guide in Georgian. When Garcia tries to ask what’s going on, one of the men turns his rifle on him. In that moment, Garcia instinctively moves behind Furstenberg, so the barrel is against her temple. He then quickly gains his composure and moves protectively in front of her. But it’s that initial impulse to sacrifice her for his own safety that colors the rest of the movie, and shapes their confused, frustrated reactions to each other from that point forward.
