The Lonely Island is getting its own movie

The Lonely Island, the finest purveyors of comedy rap since 2 Live Jews hung up their mics, are getting their own movie at Universal, with the help of producer Judd Apatow. Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone are all set to write and co-star in the film that Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct, and that Variety says will be “set in the music world.” Little else is known, although as in the group’s Digital Shorts for Saturday Night Live, you can probably expect songs along the lines of “Dick In A Box” and “Jizz In My Pants” rendered in greater, more cinematic dimensions, and obligatory cameos from celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Jon Hamm, and whoever else answers their phone. Everything else, however, is a matter of pure speculation. Perhaps it will be an 8 Mile-style story of the trio’s formative years, capped off by an epic rap battle with 2 Live Jews? (Someone should make sure the 2 Live Jews guys are doing okay, is basically what I’m saying with this. They’ve been awfully quiet.)
