Seeing as the United States won’t be moving forward with any climate-based policy for, let’s say, the next 100 years, wildfire prevention and safety are more of a problem for individuals to deal with rather than a problem for the federal government to solve. Sure, the fires are getting worse and more frequent, but as long as we have movie stars with Class B commercial driver’s licenses, 22 endangered children will be safe. In the teaser for The Lost Bus, Matthew McConaughey makes it his god-damn business to rescue a pack of flame-imprisoned children from the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, the 2018 Camp Fire. The fire, caused by Pacific Gas and Electric’s poor maintenance, killed 85 people, displaced 50,000, and burned 153,000 acres. The utility would later declare bankruptcy and plead guilty to 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter.

As for McConaughey, he’s not going to let those kids down. Inspired by a true story and based on Lizzie Johnson’s 2001 book ‌Paradise: One Town’s Struggle To Survive An American Wildfire, The Lost Bus is the latest docudrama from Paul Greengrass, who’s been sentenced to streaming, apparently, and has not released a theatrical feature since 2016’s Jason Bourne. It’s the director’s first movie since the 2020 Apple TV+ original, News Of The WorldLost Bus is the first of two Greengrass projects led by McConaughey. The other, The Rage, is about the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt in England.
