The Mars Volta will release sixth album, Noctourniquet, March 27

Those of you who were worried that the recent reunion of At The Drive-In would prevent The Mars Volta from putting out an obscure concept album with an unpronounceable name this year, well, you can breath a deep sigh of relief: The heady prog-rockers will release their sixth full-length album, Noctourniquet, on March 27. We haven't heard the album yet, but the press release says the record "explores musical territories previously uncharted in the duo's 20 or so years of creating music together." But the subject matter is drawn from a typically disparate range of sources, including "'80s UK alt-rockers The Godfathers, Superman comic nemesis Solomon Grundy and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus." We're getting our headphones warmed up already!
