The McElroy brothers actually managed to get into the Trolls sequel
A little over a year ago, Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy—the McElroy brothers of the My Brother, My Brother And Me and The Adventure Zone podcasts—ate a bunch of edibles in a hotel room after a live show and came up with a great idea: They should be in the Trolls sequel. After all, the first movie had cameos from some famous YouTubers, and podcasters are just YouTubers you can’t see, so why can’t they be in a Trolls movie? The McElroys naturally chronicled their attempts to make this happen in a jokingly serious NPR-style podcast called, appropriately enough, The McElroy Brothers Will Be In Trolls 2, which has featured interviews with Archer creator Adam Reed and a few appearances from their very game agent Joel Begleiter.
Against all odds, Vanity Fair is reporting today that the McElroys have achieved their goal, and they will actually be providing voices in the Trolls sequel, Trolls World Tour. Unfortunately, they won’t be portraying three Troll brothers, but they will be characters named Techno Beat Drop Button, Country Music Tear, and Hard Rock Tear—with Vanity Fair explaining that the latter two are teardrops that make music. This is all assuming, of course, that the McElroys don’t do so bad of a job that they’re cut out of the movie, which they all tell Vanity Fair is a real possibility. To prevent that, they’re asking everyone to start a “fucking riot” if they get cut, adding that “it needs to be the biggest deal on Earth” if they get left out of the final film.
As fans of the podcast know, the McElroys had a seemingly terrible meeting with Dreamworks—the studio behind Trolls—just after the first episode of The McElroy Brothers Will Be In Trolls 2 came out. Unfortunately, middlest brother Travis showed up late and wore a shirt that said “piss” on it, leading the McElroys to assume that their Trolls dreams were dead. Now, though, the McElroy are actually going to be in Trolls 2, assuming that they don’t screw this up somehow.
