Get your beer bottles, floppy hats, and cries of “Take off, hoser!” ready, because Canada’s favorite sons are set to return. Per The Hollywood Reporter, an upcoming benefit concert in Toronto will see Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis take to the stage for the first time in years, reprising their roles as affable Canuck stereotypes Bob and Doug McKenzie. As part of the July 18 fundraising show, the duo will be putting on a special live version of their legendary SCTV public access show, Great White North, delighting fans with Bob and Doug’s simple, beer-swilling take on Canadian life.
Bob McKenzie seems to be one of the few characters capable of luring Moranis, who recently turned down a cameo in the latest Ghostbusters film, back to the stage; although his IMDB has been extremely sparse over the last two decades or so, he’s occasionally popped up to play the character (or someone similar to him) in projects like Disney’s Brother Bear or the 2007 documentary Bob & Doug McKenzie’s Two-Four Anniversary.
Moranis isn’t the only big name involved with the benefit, which will raise funds for Thomas’ nephew, who was paralyzed in a snowmobiling accident earlier this year. Dan Aykroyd, The Kids In The Hall, and a number of SCTV alums—including Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, and Joe Flaherty—will also all perform at the show.
