The Me Him Her trailer falls into an L.A. fever dream

Though one would would be hard-pressed to discern this from the impressionistic montage that is this trailer, Me Him Her seems to be about a guy (Dustin Milligan) who travels to L.A. to help his TV actor friend (Luke Bracey) come out of the closet, only to find himself hurled into a tumultuous relationship with a recently jilted lesbian (Emily Meade). If you’ve already watched the trailer, you might want to go back and rewatch it with this new information, and it might make a little bit more sense. Regardless, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty off-kilter, frantic film pumped full of irreverent humor and splashes of fantasy.

Screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) chose this uncharacteristically non-sci-fi script as his feature directorial debut, and the directorial flourishes are plentiful. An earlier trailer released back in September didn’t do justice to the weirdness of the story, according to Landis, so he oversaw this new cut himself. “The film is an odd duck, and the trailer that had been made was very typical and generic in a way that didn’t represent the tone of the movie,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I feel that this one really does.” Take a look at the old one below, and you’ll probably agree that one up top, strange and seizure-inducing as it may be, is advertising a more interesting movie.

Landis’ film boasts an above average supporting cast, with roles of varying size going to Geena Davis, Casey Wilson, Alia Shawkat, Scott Bakula, Rebecca Drysdale, Lance Henriksen, and Haley Joel Osment. Me Him Her will premier on streaming services and in select theaters on Friday, March 11.
