The motivational wisdom of The Wire—in poster form

Devoted fans of The Wire know the series is about much more than cops, Baltimore, or institutional corruption in modern America. It’s about life, motherfucker, and a great number of life lessons can be extrapolated from the tragic arcs of The Wire’s cast of natural police, amoral stick-up boys, and lovable heroin addicts—life lessons that are easily transposed from the pages of David Simon and Ed Burns’ scripts to motivational posters like those found at the Tumblr Wire Inspire. The site has been kicking around since April, but thanks to recent notices from Vulture and the Cedric Daniels of TV criticism, Alan Sepinwall, a wider swath of the Internet is now replacing its office’s requisite images of morale-boosting eagles and ambition-spurring landscapes (and the cheeky “demotivationals” tacked beneath those) with the rousing, always applicable aphorisms of Omar Little, Prop Joe, Bunk Moreland, and other Bodymore philosophers. And yes, there’s even one for Senator Clay Davis—for what is life if not a never-ending, upstream swim through a river of sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit?
