Universal’s first teaser for its The Mummy reboot showed little more than the film’s title, but now the studio is back with a real trailer that gives us a little more of Tom Cruise and the eponymous, bandage-wrapped villain. A lot of this trailer is spent on a dramatic, bird-induced plane crash (where’s hero pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger when you need him?), and then it leads into an unexpected twist: Sofia Boutella’s mummified princess isn’t the only one coming back from the dead. It’s an interesting wrinkle, but it remains to be seen how much it will really shake up the plot. Perhaps Tom Cruise isn’t going to be much of a hero? Or perhaps he’ll have mummy powers of his own to fight the evil mummy with?
We’ll know more when The Mummy bursts from its tomb and arrives in theaters on June 9, 2017.
