The Muppets' next European caper sounds a lot like their last European caper

We’ve seen he casting announcements and the assertions that it will be a European “caper,” yet still we’ve been unsure of what the sequel to 2011’s The Muppets will actually be about, besides introducing kids to the harsh realities of the Russian gulag system. But today Entertainment Weekly clears all that up by talking to the best kind of studio PR puppet, Kermit The Frog himself, who confirms the next film will be titled The Muppets… Again!, it will be arriving March 21, 2014, and it will co-star the previously announced Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell as "a French Interpol agent," and Tina Fey as “a feisty prison guard named Nadya.” (Recently added co-star Ray Liotta escaped mention. Perhaps he's simply playing "Europe.")

But perhaps more importantly, Kermit confirmed that the Muppets’ new, potentially great “caper” will in many ways be a lot like their previous, explicitly great caper: It finds the Muppets on a world tour that’s inadvertently hijacked by Kermit's Russian doppelganger, Constantine, who’s out to steal a very large diamond. “I always loved those classic jewel-heist capers from the ’60s and ’70s, so I was very keen to do a movie that had elements of that [genre] featuring the Muppets and comedy and songs,” director James Bobin added, conspicuously ignoring the fact that someone already did that movie. Nevertheless, Kermit promises some all-new “mayhem ensues,” and then he said some other stuff where he pretended like he’s a real frog, if you’re interested in that. The rest of us will be over here, wondering when we're gonna get to the gulag.
