Hey, you know what would make a clever conceit for a single-camera comedy series? A group of diverse, professionally slumming party planners, bound together by the inanity of their jobs, attempting to deliver on the unpredictable demands of their employers. Except instead of it being the late, lamented Party Down, it should be “loosely based on the life of Beverly Hills-based party planner to the stars Mindy Weiss,” who’s handled the big day for people like Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson, Heidi Klum and Seal etc., and it should be on ABC and called Plan This. Or it could also be called Party People, concern the lives of a group of diverse, professionally slumming party planners who work as children’s birthday party entertainers, and allow booted co-chairman Ben Silverman to finally get something back on the NBC schedule. In any case, under no circumstances should it be Party Down. That’s just asking for cancellation.
