The new actor playing Chewbacca does not don the fur suit lightly

Yesterday, the full cast of the upcoming Han Solo prequel was revealed in a group photo where everyone seems to be having a lot of fun, particularly Woody Harrelson, who is clearly high as a kite. This guy couldn’t even take off his hoody for a much-anticipated photo shoot? Truly, a teacher of scoundrels.

With that announcement came the news that Joonas Suotamo would be taking over for Peter Mayhew full-time as Chewbacca. Mayhew, who originated the role way back in 1977’s A New Hope, was only able to play the howling dog-man intermittently in 2015’s The Force Awakens due to health problems, with Suotamo filling in for the more active scenes. Now that he has taken the role over, the 6’10” Finnish basketball player has penned a note to fans:

We are not entirely sure what a Wookiee fist bump is, or if it is a thing we would want to receive, but it’s a thoughtful note. You can see how Suotamo does when the movie comes out May 25, 2018.
